Most free softwares available for map serving require fairly complicated setup and a "dedicated" server (a web server customized for map serving). The Service_Geo package is designed to provide free, standards-based web serving of maps and geographic data with quick and easy setup and nothing more than PHP, the commonly available scripting language.

Service_Geo partially implements the "Web Map Service" standard of the Open Geospatial Consortium, meaning that it provides a standards-based approach to online mapping.

With Service_Geo, in a few minutes you can install and set up a service dynamically producing maps on a "hosted" server.
